Online BA in Social Sciences – Degree Program Requirements

Online BA in Social Sciences Majors must choose ONE Primary Concentration from the two choices below:

Primary Concentration:  Business

  • Education/Special Education (does not lead to Teacher Certification)
  • History
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Recreation and Leisure Studies
  • Social Work
  • Sociology

Secondary Concentration Two
(may not be the same as Primary Concentration or Secondary Concentration One)

Must complete 8 semester hours at the 300/400 level from ONE of the following social science disciplines:  

  • Business
  • Criminal Justice
  • Education/Special Education (does not lead to Teacher Certification)
  • History
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Recreation and Leisure Studies
  • Social Work

Additional requirements of the BA in Social Sciences Major

Research Course

Students must take at least one course designated as a “research course”. This course may be taken in either the primary or a secondary concentration.

Research courses include:
SW 450, HIST 314, HIST 325, HIST 347, HIST 352, HIST 353, HIST 412, HIST 417, HIST 418, HIST 426, HIST 428, HIST 433, HIST 460, INST 482, MBE 334, POLS 265, PSY 210, SOC/CJ 350, SOC 345, SOC 480, SOC 351. Prerequisites or consent may be required to register for some of these courses.

Two additional required Social Science Courses and one Social Science Elective (must be 10 or more semester hours)
