Student Resources

If you are interested in studying away, The Lighthouse is happy to help you. Our Study Away Program (SAP) provides assistance to students to prepare to study away and to translate their study away experiences into personal success.

The Lighthouse supports both semester study abroad through Virginia Wesleyan University’s Global Scholars Program and Virginia Wesleyan’s own study away courses. The Lighthouse also offers grants for students to enroll in study away courses.

If you are just starting the study away planning process, consult our Pathway to Semester Study Away Student Handout. This handout provides tips about what students could do early in their academic careers to prepare to semester study abroad in their junior or seniors years.

For information on the required application materials for the Global Scholars Semester Study Away Program, see our Semester Study Away Application Guide. To lay out a course of study to include semester study abroad, use our Four-Year Planning Worksheet.

For more information about  Virginia Wesleyan’s Study Away Program, consult with the Lighthouse’s SAP Director, Ms. Mandy Reinig ( You may make an appointment with her using our online scheduler or come to her Study Away Open Advising hours (Tuesdays, 2:30-4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays, 9:30-11:00 a.m.).
