“In Times of Trouble, O God of Peace”
How do we sing of the Prince of Peace while living with the human reality of ongoing war and violence.  How do Christians honor those who serve in the military while praising the God of Peace?   This hymn festival commemorates Veterans Day and honors our veterans while doing what people of faith are called to do: sing and pray for peace.  Join in singing songs old and new, praising the God whose kingdom on earth will finally allow us to lay down our sword and shield.

Festival Leader:
Brian Hehn, Director of the Center for Congregational Song

Hymns have played a vital role in worship since the earliest Christians gathered to worship the risen Christ. Congregational singing exploded anew with the Protestant Reformation and The Center for Sacred Music's annual Hymn Festival continues to encourage the great tradition of the people's song.

Various churches in the Hampton Roads area play host to the festival each October, and you can be a part of this great afternoon of singing by being part of a massed choir that leads the congregation in singing, and presents several special selections.

There is no charge to participate, and whether you bring your entire choir or come alone, you'll be inspired by the message of the Word, both sung and spoken, delight in the instruction of the guest conductors, and enjoy the fellowship of Christians in song.

For further details or to register, call the Center at 757-455-3376, or email sbilly@vwu.edu. Music will be provided in advance of the festival day. All choir members take part in one rehearsal at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the festival which follows at 4:00 p.m. Music should be learned in advance.
