Financial Aid Counselor; VA Certifying Official
The Financial Aid Counselor; VA Certifying Official’s responsibilities include serving as the main military and VA certifying official and counsel and advise students and parents on financial aid application procedures and processing requirements. This position requires considerable customer service support to students and parents. The Financial Aid Counselor; VA Certifying Official is also responsible to interact with various campus offices. This position requires the ability to understand information systems. The individual chosen for this position must be able to multi-task in a fast pace environment. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and prior VA experience is preferred for this position. The following are some of the duties performed by the Financial Aid Counselor; VA Certifying Official on a daily basis:
- Serve as primary contact person for our veteran students
- Certify hours and tuition and maintain files in VA-Once for students using Military Benefits
- Review financial aid forms and supporting documents to insure accuracy and consistency
- Determine applicant eligibility for financial aid awards and conduct mathematical calculations to determine award amounts
- Process financial aid award packages
- Follow-up on information needed for the completion of the financial aid process
- Requires some evening and weekend hours
