Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs

Virginia Wesleyan University seeks a highly motivated individual for the position of Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs performs a wide array of duties that support the VPAA and the Office of Academic Affairs. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, resume, and three professional references to employment@vwu.edu. Principal Responsibilities

Fields inquiries about the academic program and student concerns and routes them to the VPAA or other academic offices, as appropriate.

Provides administrative support for the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Office of Academic Affairs, including scheduling support.

Drafts adjunct and overload reports and remuneration letters for approval and submission.

Maintains personnel files for faculty and academic staff, ensuring that confidential information is secured.

Maintains a collection of policies and procedures in Academic Affairs and assists in the preparation of the Catalog, Honor Code Booklet, Faculty Handbook, and other documents for Academic Affairs.

Coordinates and staffs special events and workshops as they arise, including occasional weekend or evening hours

Helps to maintain the Academic Affairs and departmental websites.

Submits purchasing requests for the office of Academic Affairs and approves smaller budget requests.

Participates in several University committees, including the Commencement and Calendar Committees.


Bachelor’s degree required, with previous experience in higher education preferred.  Individual must be committed to customer service and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.  Proficient in the use of MS Office and willing to learn other software.  Demonstrated skill in attending to details during planning and organization is required.  Flexible work schedule to accommodate special events during some evenings and weekends.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
