Position Details

Adjunct Instructor, Department of English

Virginia Wesleyan University invites applications for a part-time position beginning Fall 2022 to teach, in
person, one or two sections of ENG 105, an argumentative writing course focused on critical thinking,
reading, researching and composing, with special attention to rhetorical techniques. The appointment
comes with the possibility of future teaching opportunities as well. Preference will be given to candidates
who have several years of teaching experience at the college level with a diverse population. Interested

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare syllabi that meet the VWU syllabus guidelines and provide these to students on the first day of class. Syllabi should also be provided to department chairs.
  • Be on time and prepared for class sessions and grade, provide feedback, and return assignments within a reasonable time period.
  • Communicate with students via office hours and email.
  • Submit mid-term reports, final grades, and C- reports per guidelines provided by the University Registrar.
  • Comply with FERPA regulations.
  • Coordinate with Campus support services as needed to support students.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in English or a related field is required. Terminal degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and use Blackboard, the University Learning Management System.
  • Strong communication skills.
