Choral Leadership Academy
Virginia Wesleyan Choral Leadership Academy
July 24-29, 2017
Designed for High School choral students as an intensive, non-residential, weeklong academy. As a participant in this conference, you will develop the skills necessary to be successful choral leaders: music educators, section leaders, church musicians, etc.
Throughout the week, you will have the opportunity to learn from Dr. Bryson Mortensen the skills necessary to be an effective choral conductor. You will have the opportunity to learn and develop conducting and rehearsal techniques as you learn and apply those skills in rehearsal: conducting your fellow classmates in a variety of choral works. You will also have the opportunity to conduct your classmates in the special recital on the last Friday of the Academy.
You will learn the principles of healthy vocal technique and learn to develop it in your own voice as well as teach it to others. You will apply these skills in solo and choral repertoire throughout the academy.
In addition, you will continue to develop your fluency in Solfege, the International Phonetic Alphabet, Music Theory, and keyboard skills through guided study and practice.
The Choral Leadership Academy is behind held in conjunction with the Center for Sacred Music, you will be able to participate in several of their events and lectures, including performing as part of the Festival Choir in the weekend concert with guest conductor Constantina Tsolainou.
