As renewable energy technologies become more common and widespread in their use, a number of factors must be considered when assessing their impact on the environment. These include degradation from the mining operations that produce the raw materials as well as the manufacturing facilities and the sites where the devices are deployed along with their decommissioning. Considering all of these variables will greatly aid in the creation of a more sustainable future and energy supply both domestically and internationally. Overall, mining represents one of the greatest problems in the supply chain and increased recycling and other safe guards can alleviate these issues.
