New Student Password Change Instructions

The following instructions are for new VWU students. Start at https://myaccount.vwu.edu:9251/. This process does not affect your Blackboard password. You can however change it to match this password. Directions for changing your Blackboard in Section B of this document..

Section A - Changing Your Network Password

Step 1

Enter the username (your 7 digit student ID number) and temporary password.

  • If you do not know your temporary password, it is set to the following:
    First initial (uppercase) + last initial (lowercase) + six digit birthdate (MMDDYY) format + last digit of your zip code
  • For example, if Bob Marlin was born on May 12, 2001 and lives in the 23455 zip code, his default password would be Bm0512015

Click Login

Step 2

Enter the default password from Step 1 in the Old Password field and enter a new password in the “New Password” and “Confirm New Password” fields then click Change Password.

Password Complexity Rules:

  • Minimum 10 characters
  • Use 3 of the following 4 items:
    • Uppercase letters
    • Lowercase letters
    • Numbers
    • Special Characters

You will see the following popup after changing your password.

Once you click close, you will be prompted to set up your password self service features. Be sure to click the green Click Here button.

Step 3

You will need to enter the answers for three security questions before proceeding to password reset. These questions will assist you in resetting your password should you forget it in the future.
The final question is one that you create yourself. Once you have entered all the information, click Next.

You will see the following window once you have completed the security question section.

You will now be able to log into campus services such as email and WebAdvisor.

 


Section B - Changing Your Blackboard Password

Step 1

Go to the VWU homepage (www.vwu.edu) and click the MyBeacon icon.

Step 2

Click the Blackboard icon.

Step 3

Log in with your original VWU username (your student ID) and the password from Step 1 in Section A of this document.

Step 4

In the Tools menu, click Personal Information.

Step 5

Click Change Password.

Step 6

Enter your current password, and then enter a new password, verify it, and click Submit. You can use the same password as you set in Section A of this document.
