Meet Our Counselors
Bill Brown was hired as the Director of Student Counseling Services in August of 1999. Before coming to VWU, Bill spent eleven years providing psychotherapy services to adult clients at the City of Virginia Beach's Mental Health Center. Prior to settling in Virginia Beach, Bill worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings and held positions such as "Clinical Social Worker" at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, "Family Therapist" for another hospital's substance abuse and mental health units and "Outpatient Service Director" for the Mental Health Center in Danville, Virginia. He also ran his own private practice and acted as the clinical director for a group practice of substance abuse treatment providers. Bill completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology (not "Bloodsucking", as alleged by certain students) at Transylvania University, a small liberal arts college in Lexington, Kentucky, which is very similar in size to VWU. He received his MSW at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in 1987.
Heidi Khatibi was hired as a Resident Counselor in Student Counseling Services in Fall of 2016. Before coming to VWU, Heidi worked as a Behavioral Health Therapist in Illinois, providing outpatient counseling and support services for a broad range of mental health and addiction issues for children, adolescents and adults. Heidi obtained her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and later went on to complete her Masters in Counseling at Regent University in Virginia Beach. Heidi first connected with VWU when she worked as an intern in the VWU Student Counseling Center during her Master’s program. Heidi loved working with the VWU student population and was “thrilled” with the opportunity to return.
