Anne B. Shumadine Dean of the Batten Honors College
Dr. Travis Malone is Dean of the Batten Honors College of Virginia Wesleyan University. He holds a Ph.D. in Theatre and Film from Bowling Green State University, a master's in Speech and Theatre from Kansas State University, and a bachelor's degree from Sterling College.
For more than 20 years, Dr. Malone teaches courses in Directing, Acting, Production Design, Acting for the Camera, Theatre History, Leadership, and Nonprofit Management. Dr. Malone has served the campus as inaugural dean of the Susan S. Goode School of Arts and Humanities. Dr. Malone was instrumental in the design and construction of the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center (2019) and served on the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art Integration Team. As the Anne B. Shumadine Dean of the Jane P. Batten Honors College, Dr. Malone works with the Office of Enrollment to recruit students while also overseeing honors educational curriculum and community programming.
As a theatre and film professional, Dr. Malone maintains a vibrant creative portfolio. Dr. Malone has produced trailers, commercials, music videos, and digital media content for Disney, Fox, and Sony. A proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographer's Society, Dr. Malone continues to act and direct across the region. His most recent productions include: Chicago, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, Anastasia, and Avenue Q. In additon to his work on stage, Dr. Malone is an Associate Producer for Motivate Pictures, an independent film company based in Austin, TX, and Barcelona, Spain.
