Diving into the Action at the Spring Student Involvement Fair
Marlins discover countless ways to get involved on campus
University News | February 9, 2026
At Virginia Wesleyan University, learning extends far beyond the classroom. An active, engaged student life is central to the VWU experience, and the Office of Student Engagement— led by Assistant Vice President for Campus Life Jen Cohen— plays a vital role in helping students find their place, build connections, and grow as leaders within the campus community.
On February 6, Student Engagement hosted its Spring Involvement Fair in the Jane P. Batten Student Center; a time for students to explore the possibilities and for clubs and organizations to tout their interests and focus. Designed to complement academic programs of study, the Office of Student Engagement enhances the student experience by offering opportunities that increase involvement, strengthen campus connections, broaden cultural awareness, engage students of diverse backgrounds, and provide hands-on, experiential learning. Whether students are discovering new interests or deepening existing passions, involvement helps transform their college years into something meaningful and memorable.
Through Student Engagement, students have opportunities to identify their strengths and hone leadership skills, improve interpersonal communication, and apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-world situations. Participation also fosters lasting friendships and meaningful connections to campus—connections that often continue long after graduation.
From shaping campus traditions to influencing policies that impact the student body, involvement empowers students to be active contributors to the campus community. Students can start or join one of the University’s many clubs and organizations, become part of a fraternity or sorority, serve as a voice for their peers through the Student Government Association, or help plan signature campus events with Off The Hook!, VWU’s student programming board.
These experiences not only enrich campus life but also prepare students for life after college by building practical skills, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging. Leadership development, teamwork, event planning, and community engagement are just a few of the transferable skills students gain through active participation.
The Office of Student Engagement is located in the Batten Center and serves as a welcoming hub for students eager to get involved. Whether you are looking to explore new opportunities or take the next step in leadership, the office connects students with experiences that help shape both their college journey and their future.
