Future Marlins and their families gathered February 15 for a look at life on campus as Virginia Wesleyan University hosted its winter Marlins Day Open House.

The day began with tours of Wesleyan's beautiful 300-acre campus, followed by a welcome session in the Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center with remarks from VWU President Scott D. Miller, Vice President for Enrollment David Waggoner, and students Faith Macwana and Garrett Hedspeth.

“VWU is a special, student-centered university where you will learn many skills, and enjoy lots of new opportunities," Dr. Miller told guests, "We offer an educational experience that will prepare you not just for your first job, but also for the one after that…and for the rest of your life. If I’ve convinced you that this is a place of tremendous possibility, energy and opportunity, then I’ve done my job today."

Throughout the morning, visitors explored campus, met VWU faculty and staff, and learned about academic offerings, scholarships, and the financial aid process. Special freshman, transfer, and parent break-out sessions were held, and an Academic Department Fair took place in the Jane P. Batten Student Center. Guests also had the opportunity to watch Marlin Athletics in action with a VWU baseball game, and auditions were held for the Wesleyan Music Department. Lunch was served in Boyd Dining Center.

The next Marlins Day Open House is scheduled for Saturday, April 4. Learn more and register at vwu.edu/marlinsdays.
