Holiday happenings at Virginia Wesleyan College

Holiday cheer is in the air at Virginia Wesleyan. College traditions are aplenty this time of year—whether you’re in the mood for the uplifting “Wesleyan Christmas” concert or the annual Holiday Tree Lighting, we’ll put you in the spirit with these festive events planned for December and beyond.


Monumental Moments:
The Christmas Story in Lessons & Carols

Thursday, December 3
11 a.m., Monumental Chapel
As part of the Monumental Moments series, the Center for Sacred Music presents "The Christmas Story in Lessons & Carols" on Thursday, December 3 at 11 a.m. in Monumental Chapel. Featuring Advent and Christmas scriptures with poetry and singing; special music by the Wesleyan Chorale under the direction of Dr. Bryson Mortensen. Santa 5K Run

Friday, December 4
2:30 p.m., Virginia Wesleyan College Campus
The VWC Women's Lacrosse Team will host its Santa 5K Run on Friday, December 4, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for best costume, best ugly sweater and first place individual and/or team. Pricing: $10 for individuals; $30 for teams of 3-4. Runners under 18 years of age must sign a waiver. Pre-registration required. Holiday Tree Lighting

Friday, December 4
4:30 p.m., Behind Godwin Hall
The College’s 2015 Holiday Tree Lighting celebration will take place Friday, December 4 at 4:30 p.m. around the Christmas tree behind Godwin Hall. This annual tradition honors the life of fallen alumnus Lt. Slator Clay Blackiston III '76. Caroling will set the festive mood as many student groups, clubs and organizations show their holiday spirit.

A Wesleyan Christmas

Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5
Hofheimer Theater
Ring in the season with an evening of holiday favorites, old and new, performed by the Wesleyan Singers and the Wesleyan Chorale with faculty soloists and instrumentalists, under the direction of Dr. Bryson Mortensen. With George Stone, piano. December 4 at 7:30 p.m. and December 5 at 4 p.m., Hofheimer Theater. Advance reservations are a must; call 757.455.2101. All seats: $5. Monumental Moments: Women’s Christmas

As part of the Monumental Moments series, the Center for Sacred Music presents "Women’s Christmas" on Wednesday, January 6 at 12 p.m. in Monumental Chapel. On this traditional date of Epiphany, ‘Nollaig na mBan’ (“Little Christmas”) marks an Irish tradition which offers women a time apart from duties of hearth and home to celebrate and reflect on the New Year.
