Mike White '81 joins VWC Board of Trustees

Michael J. White '81, President of Maersk Line Agency, Inc., has been selected to serve on the Virginia Wesleyan College Board of Trustees.News Release | August 11, 2016

Michael J. White, President of Maersk Line Agency, Inc., has been selected to serve on the Virginia Wesleyan College Board of Trustees, according to Dr. Scott D. Miller, President of the College. He is a 1981 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan. 

"We're delighted that Mike will join our Board of Trustees,” Dr. Miller said. “As a distinguished alumnus of the College, it is a pleasure to have him return to his alma mater in this important capacity."

White was appointed president of Maersk Line Agency in August 2009. He is responsible for all Maersk Line Agency activities for North America, including the United States and Canada. He previously served as chief executive for Maersk Line Central Europe (2007-2009), where he was responsible for Maersk Line Agency activities in 12 countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Poland, Czech Republic, and Hungary. He also served as president of MaerskLogistics USA, Inc. (2005-2007), where he oversaw Maersk Logistics, Damco, Maersk Customs Service, Inc., The Gilbert Company and Bridge Terminal Transport.

Earlier in his career, White held a number of senior management positions with P&O Containers and P&O Nedlloyd. He was president and CEO of P&O Nedlloyd North America, president of Farrell Lines, and director and chairman of Port Newark Container Terminal. He began his career as a management trainee for Schenkers International in 1981, where he held a number of management positions before joining P&O Containers in 1990.

White is a licensed Customhouse Broker, and has been the qualifying officer for the Freight Forwarding organizations of P&O Nedlloyd and Maersk Logistics. His prior Board positions include: Maersk Holding BV, Maersk BV, Maersk Logistics USA, Inc., Hudd Distribution Services, Inc., Bridge Terminal Transport, Inc., Maersk Customs Services, Inc., Maersk Logistics Canada, Inc., P&O Nedlloyd Terminal Holdings, Inc., P&O Nedlloyd Logistics, Inc., Farrell Lines, and Port Newark Container Terminal.

Virginia Wesleyan's Board of Trustees is the governing body of the College and consists of up to 40 voting members. Trustees include alumni, business, church, educational and community leaders with a wide range of expertise and experience.

In addition to his Virginia Wesleyan studies, White has studied at Harvard Business School and IMD Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland. He is married with two children and currently resides in New Jersey.
