Millers to Lead Panel on Presidential Transition

President and Mrs. Scott D. Miller will discuss effective transition strategies Jan. 7 at CIC Presidents Institute

Virginia Wesleyan College President Scott D. Miller and his wife, Annie, will lead a session on presidential transition Jan. 7 as part of the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) 2016 Presidents Institute in Miami.

The Presidents Institute brings presidents of independent colleges and universities together for networking, problem solving, and sharing of ideas among colleagues leading similar institutions. In recent years, the CIC event has become the largest annual meeting of college and university presidents, bringing together more than 330 higher education chief executives.

In a panel discussion chaired by Pacific Union College President Heather Knight, the Millers will join former Wells College President Lisa Marsh Ryerson to discuss steps a president and presidential spouse can take to ensure a smooth transition for the next campus leader.

Dr. Miller became president of Virginia Wesleyan College in 2015. He previously served as president at Bethany College (2007-2015), Wesley College (1997-2007) and Lincoln Memorial University (1991-1997). He is a former board member and officer of the CIC, having concluded 15 years as chair of the acclaimed CIC New Presidents Program in 2015. He is chair of the Board of Directors of the Washington, DC-based Academic Search, Inc. and vice chair of the American Academic Leadership Institute.

Mrs. Miller served as a hospital, clinic, state agency and charter school nurse for 25 years. The Millers have been married for 32 years and have two adult daughters, both of whom grew up on college campuses.
