PGMS Salutes VWU for Grounds Management Excellence

For fifth consecutive year, Virginia Wesleyan recognized as part of the Green Star Awards

News Release |  November 2, 2017

The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) has recognized Virginia Wesleyan University with an Honor Award in the Society's 2017 Green Star Awards® competition. The award was given in the University and College Grounds (Large) category for exceptional grounds maintenance. Winners were honored during the Society’s 2017 Awards Dinner held Oct. 20 in conjunction with the School of Grounds Management & GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky., Oct. 18-21.

Virginia Wesleyan’s campus grounds provide a peaceful setting due to the large expanse of open fields, numerous ponds, and being bordered by native woodlands. Redbuds, azaleas, dogwoods and daffodils provide spring color while crepe myrtles, knockout roses, vinca, and oleander bloom during the summer months and provide natural beauty. Throughout the year, the VWU campus consistently conducts outside events which showcase the grounds beauty for all to enjoy.  This is the fifth consecutive year that Virginia Wesleyan has been recognized as part of the Green Star Awards.

“Virginia Wesleyan University is truly an inspiring place to live and learn,” notes VWU President Scott D. Miller. “Special thanks to the entire Virginia Wesleyan University grounds staff.  Their efforts help us to present our campus in the best possible light, and we are grateful for the outstanding work they do.”

The Green Star Awards program brings national recognition to grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence, complimenting other national landscape award programs that recognize outstanding landscape design and construction. Overall, PGMS presented seven Grand Awards, its highest honor, as well as 23 Honor Awards and six Merit Awards in thirteen categories of competition.
