Virginia Wesleyan Announces Tenure and Promotion of Professors

The Board of Trustees approved the status of several faculty members during its winter meeting

Virginia Wesleyan University President Scott D. Miller is pleased to announce that during its winter meeting the Board of Trustees voted to approve the tenure and promotion status of the following faculty members:


The following faculty members were granted tenure and promoted to associate professor:

M. Annette Clayton (social work) joined the faculty in 2015. She earned a B.S. from Howard University, her M.S.S.W. from the University of Texas, Austin, and her Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Antje Schwennicke (political science) joined the faculty in 2015. She earned an M.A. from the Free University, Berlin, and her Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington.

Jill Sturts (sport and recreation professions) joined the faculty in 2015. She earned her B.A. from Baldwin-Wallace College, her M.Ed. from Bowling Green State University, and her Ph.D. from Indiana University.


The following faculty members were promoted to full professor:

Kellie Holzer (English) joined the faculty in 2012. She earned a B.A. from Seattle Pacific University, and a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Washington.

Maury Howard (chemistry) joined the faculty in 2008. She earned a B.A. from Dominican University and her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.

Margaret Reese (mathematics) joined the faculty in 1997. She earned a B.A. from Converse College, an M.S. from Old Dominion University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
