Virginia Wesleyan University is set to expand its Esports program by introducing a competitive Marvel Rivals team in the Fall 2025 semester. Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play, third-person hero shooter developed by NetEase Games in collaboration with Marvel Games. The game features 6v6 team-based battles where players select from a roster of over 35 iconic Marvel characters, including heroes and villains from the Avengers, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more. Each character falls into one of three roles: Vanguard, Duelist, or Strategist offering unique abilities and playstyles. The game emphasizes strategic team compositions and dynamic gameplay through features like Team-Up skills and destructible environments.
