Business Concentrations

Business majors may choose from eight concentrations, which allow students to gain knowledge and expertise in a specific topic of interest.  Concentrations include Accounting & Finance, General Administration & Supervision, Information Management, International Business, Law & Public Administration, Marketing & Public Relations, Personnel, Human Resource Management, and Supply Chain & Operations Management. Students choose three (3) senior synthesis courses: one must be upper-level MBE, one must be the capstone (MBE 406 for example), and the third must be a 300/400-level class from the list below.  Advisors work closely with students to identify which course options work best for their particular career interest.  Course descriptions are located in the Virginia Wesleyan University catalog.

Accounting & Finance

Accounting is a challenging and rewarding profession, and Virginia Wesleyan University offers a number of pathways to a career.  The university provides all of the courses required to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Examinations upon graduation as part of the business program.  These classes can be supplemented with an externship or internship to develop applied accounting skills.  Interested students are encouraged to contact a member of the business faculty early in their program to create a four-year plan that will achieve their career goals.

In addition to MBE 203 (Accounting I) and MBE 204 (Accounting II), which are required courses for all business majors, 32 semester hours of advanced accounting courses are also available through the business program:
