VWU Campus Ministries Kicks Off with an Exciting Start

Campus Ministries at Virginia Wesleyan University has launched into the fall semester with momentum, community, and spiritual growth. From retreats to festivals to worship, our students have already made a meaningful difference both on and off campus.

We began with a weekend retreat that brought together eighteen students, including six first-year students. Through team building and Gallup StrengthsFinder sessions, students discovered their unique gifts and how to use them in ministry and leadership. This retreat laid the foundation for a year of deepening faith and community.

Soon after, our students partnered with Haygood United Methodist Church for the annual Haygood Fall Festival. As part of our unique partnership—sharing a director of campus ministries between VWU and Haygood UMC—our students helped set up and lead games for the community. Their efforts made it possible for the Kids Zone to welcome hundreds of children and families for an afternoon of joy, play, and connection.

Campus Ministries students also stepped into leadership during Youth Sunday at VWU, joining with students from the ODU Wesley Foundation and NSU Wesley Westminster Campus Ministry to guide more than seventy youth and their leaders in games, worship, and fellowship. Centered on the theme Greed vs. Gratitude, the day sparked meaningful conversations and genuine engagement among the youth, reminding us of the power of Scripture to shape our daily choices.

We are deeply grateful for our students—their enthusiasm, faith, and willingness to serve are already shaping this semester into something extraordinary. With this exciting start, VWU Campus Ministries looks forward to even more opportunities to live out Christ's love on campus and in the wider community.
