Dual Admissions Accelerated Pathway Medical Degree to Western Atlantic University's School of Medicine WAUSM
Virginia Wesleyan University VWU) and Western Atlantic University School of Medicine (WAUSM) have signed a groundbreaking articulation agreement to establish an Accelerated Combined Bachelor/MD Program, offering highly qualified students the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in as few as six years.
Set to launch in Fall 2026, the program provides a fast-tracked pathway for students pursuing careers in medicine. Participants will spend seven academic terms (2.25 years) at Virginia Wesleyan University, completing at least 90 credits, including all WAUSM prerequisite coursework. Those who meet the program's academic and proficiency standards will then transition to WAUSM, where they will be considered dual-enrolled at both institutions for their first two terms of medical school. Upon successful completion, students will be awarded their bachelor's degree from VWU and continue toward their MD at WAUSM.
Apply to two schools with one application: Students apply using the Virginia Wesleyan University application. Qualified candidates are accepted directly into GCU and given a Conditional Acceptance to WAUSM at the same time.
Experience Matters: Faculty and administrators at WAUSM have helped to match over 25,000 medical graduates in residencies upon degree completion.
Value that is Tangible: Students will graduate two years earlier than the traditional path, meaning less expenses and earlier earnings.
Meeting the Need: One in five doctors in the United States is foreign born and foreign educated. There are over 12,000 residency spots filled by graduates of a foreign medical school each year.
