Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center

VWU professor Jason Squinobal (saxophone) is joined by Joel Sanford (piano), Evan Shackly (guitar), Will McPeters (string bass), and Dennis Northerner (percussion) in a free informal evening of light jazz standards and new works on Friday, August 2, in the Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center. Snacks and cash bar at 6:45 p.m., music begins at 7:00 p.m. Enjoy a casual evening in the glass-enclosed gallery as the sun sets over the VWU "front lawn." Grab a drink, find a table, and enjoy music and conversation with friends. Free; no reservations required.

Steep Canyon Rangers

With six albums earning the #1 spot in Bluegrass charts, and appearances on NBC’s Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and CBS’s Late Show with both Steven Colbert and David Letterman, Steep Canyon Rangers appears in the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center on Saturday, August 10 at 7:30 p.m. Graham Sharp, singer & banjo; Woody Plant, guitar; Mike Guggino, mandolin; Nicky Sanders, fiddle; Barrett Smith, upright bass; and Mike Ashworth, percussion, bring their usual spark and texture through energized, animated set lists that keep you on the edge of the cliff, never quite sure what the band will pull out of the hat with their combination of classic bluegrass and remakes of pop works in bluegrass style. Always a great evening whether you're new to their sound, or never miss a concert! Tickets are available at with general seating at two levels ($40-$55).

The Robert F. Boyd Institute

The Robert F. Boyd Institute will feature Rev. Olu Brown as keynote speaker on March 23-24, 2020. Rev. Brown is the lead pastor of Impact Church near Atlanta. In 2016, Impact Church was listed as one of the top 100 fastest growing churches in America. A graduate of Jarvis Christian College and the Interdenominational Theological Seminary, Rev. Brown says he is “truly a church planter at heart.” He is the author of Zero to 80: Innovative Ideas for Planting and Accelerating Church Growth, and Leadership Directions from Moses. His latest book, 4D Impact: Smash Barriers Like a Smart Church, was released in April 2019.
