Leona Baker joined the Virginia Wesleyan family in November 2010 as Assistant Director of Communications and Lead Writer and became Director of Communications in 2012. She is an award-winning writer, editor and communications professional and previously served as Managing Editor of Port Folio Weekly, an alternative weekly paper covering news, politics, arts and culture in Coastal Virginia. She holds a B.A. in English from James Madison University and a B.F.A. in Dance & Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is passionate about language, the arts, nature, movement and fitness, food, popular culture and current events, but most of all about being exposed to new experiences, people and ideas. She is proud to work with a talented, dynamic Marketing and Communications staff, all of whom work tirelessly to promote this “powerhouse of a little place."
