Ms. Ferris received her M.Ed. from the University of Virginia where she began her work in the areas of parenting and infant education. Her undergraduate degree was in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Old Dominion University where she helped develop the program at the Child Study Center. Ms. Ferris was the lead teacher in the Center before joining the Elementary Education faculty. She also has done additional graduate work at Memphis State University, Old Dominion University, and the University of Virginia. She has taught courses at four other colleges and done consultation and training with the staff an administrators in the Head Start program. The study of comparative education has involved course work and visits to educational facilities in most of the twenty seven countries she has visited. Ms. Ferris is involved in a number of community service projects which include serving on the Early Childhood Advisory Board for Tidewater Community College, the Virginia Beach Families for a Lifetime Committee, and facilitating the Pipeline to the Community Project at three Title I schools in Virginia Beach.
